AmSECT 2024 Election Information

 

Interested in volunteering with AmSECT? Consider running for an elected position on the AmSECT Board of Directors or one of the elected committee positions! 

 
 

The Willingness to Serve application is now closed.

 

All interested candidates for the below positions are required to complete a Willingness to Serve application, and be approved by the Nominating and Ethics Committees. Approved candidates will then be eligible to run on the 2024 election ballot. Please see below the criteria and eligibility requirements as well as the expectations for each position. 

 

Please note: You must be an Active, Lifetime or Transitional member in good standing to submit a Willingness to Serve application. You must be in good standing during the election process, and if elected, during the full term of your position. Associate, International, Perioperative Blood Management Clinician, Retired and Student members are not eligible to run for any open officer or committee positions.

You may run for multiple committee positions, however you will only be asked to serve in one position if you are declared the winner in multiple. 

2024 Open Positions:

 
Position Time Commitment/Expectation
President-Elect Attend hour calls twice a month along with ongoing email discussions as items arise. Attend two day-long board meetings annually and additional meetings with sponsors during the International Conference. Participates as a Board of Directors Committee advocate, provides assistance to the committee and committee chair in developing and maintaining mission and goal statements and reports committee activity, progress, concerns and requests to the Board of Directors. 
Secretary Attend hour calls twice a month along with ongoing email discussions as items arise. Attend two day-long board meetings annually and additional meetings with sponsors during the International Conference. Participates as a Board of Directors Committee advocate, provides assistance to the committee and committee chair in developing and maintaining mission and goal statements and reports committee activity, progress, concerns and requests to the Board of Directors. 
Treasurer Attend hour calls three times a month along with ongoing email discussions as items arise. Attend two day-long board meetings annually and additional meetings with sponsors during the International Conference. Participates as a Board of Directors Committee advocate, provides assistance to the committee and committee chair in developing and maintaining mission and goal statements and reports committee activity, progress, concerns and requests to the Board of Directors. Reviews AmSECT monthly financial statements and oversees the AmSECT Foundation.
Zone 1 Director

Attend hour calls once a month along with ongoing email discussions as items arise. Attend two day-long board meetings annually and additional meetings with sponsors during the International Conference. Disseminate zone specific information to zone members. Participates as a Board of Directors Committee advocate, provides assistance to the committee and committee chair in developing and maintaining mission and goal statements and reports committee activity, progress, concerns and requests to the Board of Directors.

  • Members living in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming are part of Zone 1. You must live in Zone 1 to run for this position.
  • Members residing in the state of California are ineligible to run as California is already represented on the Board of Directors.
Zone 2 Director

Attend hour calls once a month along with ongoing email discussions as items arise. Attend two day-long board meetings annually and additional meetings with sponsors during the International Conference. Disseminate zone specific information to zone members. Participates as a Board of Directors Committee advocate, provides assistance to the committee and committee chair in developing and maintaining mission and goal statements and reports committee activity, progress, concerns and requests to the Board of Directors. 

  • Members living in Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, or Wisconsin are in Zone 2. You must live in Zone 2 to run for this position.
  • Members residing in the state of Illinois are ineligible to run as Illinois is already represented on the Board of Directors. 
Zone 3 Director

Attend hour calls once a month along with ongoing email discussions as items arise. Attend two day-long board meetings annually and additional meetings with sponsors during the International Conference. Disseminate zone specific information to zone members. Participates as a Board of Directors Committee advocate, provides assistance to the committee and committee chair in developing and maintaining mission and goal statements and reports committee activity, progress, concerns and requests to the Board of Directors. 

  • Members living in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Ohio, or Puerto Rico. You must live in Zone 3 to run for this position.
  • Members residing in the state of Tennessee are ineligible to run as Tennessee is already represented on the Board of Directors. 
Achievement Recognition Committee Member

Meet on an as-needed basis and attend committee calls. Three-year term. Member serves as Chairman in third year of term. More information on the Achievement Recognition Committee can be found here. 

Bylaws Committee Member

Meet on an as-needed basis and attend committee calls. Three-year term. Member serves as Chairman in their final year. More information on the Bylaws Committee can be found here. 

Ethics Committee Member

Meet on an as-needed basis and attend quarterly calls. Three-year term. Member serves as Chairman in third year of term. Committee and duties of the Committee can be found here. 

Nominating Committee Member

Most active during election cycles. Meet on as an-needed basis, attend calls and respond to emails in a timely manner. Three-year term. Member serves as Chairman in third year of term. More information on the Nominating Committee can be found here.
