Join us for an inspiring session honoring Mark Kurusz, a perfusion pioneer. Mark has
longstanding interests in artificial organ history, risk management, perfusion standards,
and mechanical circulatory support. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from
Bloomfield College in 1971 and began his perfusion career at Penn State University’s
Hershey Medical Center.
He went on to serve nearly three decades as Chief Perfusionist and faculty member in the
Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch, where he continues to
contribute as an Adjunct Assistant Professor. His career also includes clinical work with
Capital Area Perfusionists, Inc. and leadership at Windmill Cardiovascular Systems, Inc.,
where he has served as President and Secretary/Treasurer.
A prolific author and editor, Mark has contributed over 100 articles, numerous book chapters,
and several books, and has served extensively on committees for AmSECT, AACP, ASAIO, ABCP,
ELSO, P.R.E.F., AAMI, and ISO. His work has been recognized with multiple awards for
academic and leadership excellence.
