Position: Staff Perfusionist

Location: Jersey City, NJ

Description: Responsibilities: To maintain adequate circulatory and respiratory support during open heart surgery• Set-up and operation of the extra-corporeal circuit, set-up and calibration of physiological monitoring, autotransfusion, stat lab operation, as well as maintaining proper perfusion records• The Perfusionist is responsible for the set-up and operation of advanced life support systems including: intra-aortic balloon pump and ventricular assist devices.

Requirements: Qualifications• Graduate of an educational program accredited by Council on Allied Health Education Administration (CAHEA)• Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or eligible for certification exam which must be passed within one year of becoming eligible• Valid New Jersey State Perfusion License• It is the responsibility of the perfusionist to maintain and provide proof of certification, licensure and BCLS certification for hospital records• S - Speak up for Safety • A - Accurately communicate• E - Exercise and accept a questioning attitude• T - Thoughtfully interact

An Active Member shall be any perfusionist active in the practice of extracorporeal circulation technology. There are also opportunities to become a Transitional Active Member for those less than a year removed from graduation from an approved accredited training program. Other options include; an Associate Membership, International Membership, Perioperative Blood Management Clinician Membership, and Student Membership.
