Staff Perfusionist

Location: Newark, Delaware

Description: Christiana Care’s Cardiovascular Surgery program is one of the top in the nation and continues to grow! With five cardiovascular surgeons on staff, we perform close to 800 cardiovascular surgeries each year. The Clinical Perfusionist will conduct cardiopulmonary bypass for adult open heart procedures, anticoagulation management, autologous blood salvaging/transfusion and quality control management. Also acts as an integral member of the critical care team for patients in need of life saving extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy when indicated, helping to place the patient on ECMO and then optimizing the therapy for the duration of treatment. They provide in case support for all transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures as well as HIPEC (Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy) cases in the general OR.

Our Perfusion Team, when full, will consist of four full time perfusionists and three full time perfusion assistants/PBMT’s(Perioperative Blood Management Technicians).

The hours are Monday through Friday day shift, with a 1:4 on-call rotation to cover evenings & weekends.

Requirements: Qualified applicants will possess a separate Bachelor’s Degree, and or a Degree/Certification from an accredited Perfusion program. They will have current certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or will be Board Eligible. A minimum of 2 years of recent work experience as Certified Clinical Perfusionist is preferred but is not required.

An Active Member shall be any perfusionist active in the practice of extracorporeal circulation technology. There are also opportunities to become a Transitional Active Member for those less than a year removed from graduation from an approved accredited training program. Other options include; an Associate Membership, International Membership, Perioperative Blood Management Clinician Membership, and Student Membership.
