Description: Springhill Medical Center in Mobile, Alabama has an immediate opening for a third staff perfusionist to permanently locate in beautiful Mobile, Alabama. Mobile is an area of appoximately 300K and is located on the gulf coast within an easy drive to beautiful beaches and the "emerald coast" area of Gulf Shores/Destin/Ft.Walton/Panama City Florida. Outdoor activities are plentiful, including, golf, hunting, fishing (fresh and salt), boating, beaches, & sailing. Mobile is in the deep south with much tradition. Mobile is the home of the first Mardi Gras, the America's Junior Miss Competition, The Senior Bowl, and a post-season major college bowl game. We have a minor league baseball team. We are 45 minutes from the Biloxi area which has beautiful casinos and in-house shows. New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Atlanta are also an easy drive away.
Requirements: Duties include equal shares of Adult CPB, platelet gel, call, stocking, autotransfusion, IABP insertion, equipment maintenance, Impella, etc. Once this position is filled there will be 3 perfusionists. 30 minute response time required. This is a hospital based department so includes all standard hospital benefits. Must be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and, due to extra responsibilities, a minimum of 3 years of perfusion experience is required. (3-5 years preferred). Additional healthcare experience before perfusion will be a huge bonus in the selection process.
We do our cases in a free-standing cardiac services building. This building houses 3 cath labs plus an E.P. lab, cardiac rehab, MVP clinic, ECHO, EKG, Cardiac Nuclear, and one whole floor is dedicated to a cardiology practice/clinic. Also in this building we have 3 dedicated open-heart surgery rooms and a fitness club. This program is about 19 years old. We work with 10 different surgeons that bring a wide variety of cases to our hospital. OPCAB mix has actually declined to about <2%. We cover cell savers for the general O.R. (approximately 100/year). We do IABP and Impella insertions, transport, and troubleshooting, but, do not continuously monitor. VAD's are Impellas and are insertion and transport only. We also do TAVR’s twice a month. We have a first and second call Monday through Friday and one person on call on weekends. We also cover emergent Cath Lab cases.
