Staff Perfusionist

Position: Staff Perfusionist

Location: Phoenix, AZ


Staff Perfusionists provide quality clinical perfusion services for adult patients during cardiothoracic surgeries, administer emergency cardiac and other perfusion procedures including ECMO in the Phoenix area. The position responsibilities include:

-Operate heart-lung machine during open-heart procedures.

-Participate in direct patient care during cardiac surgery by providing total or partial body perfusion, with desired temperature control and maintenance of normal physiological function.

-Set-up and prepare the heart-lung machine, platelet gel, and autotransfusion machines for use in surgery independently.

-Provide daily maintenance of the heart-lung machines and other equipment following surgery.

-Prepare heparin and protamine dosages for the patient under the direction of the surgeon, including running the ACTs during CPB.

-Perform point of care blood gas monitoring.

-Operate autotransfusion system for cardiac and other procedures that require autotransfusion services.

-Responsible for ongoing self-learning and maintenance of clinical skills.

-Demonstrate acceptance of responsibility; pride in work performed; and flexibility in acceptance of assignments.

-Consistently maintain professional behavior and appearance.

-Ability to meet on-call requirements (nights, weekends and holidays) within 30 minutes.

-Must be able to independently cover multiple hospitals and multiple accounts daily.

-Minimum 3 years experience required.

-Perform other duties as assigned.

AmSECT Membership Eligibility

An Active Member shall be any perfusionist active in the practice of extracorporeal circulation technology. There are also opportunities to become a Transitional Active Member for those less than a year removed from graduation from an approved accredited training program. Other options include; an Associate Membership, International Membership, Perioperative Blood Management Clinician Membership, and Student Membership.
