Position: Perfusionist

Location: Billings, MT


Operates heart-lung machine in hospital to take over functions of patient’s heart and lungs during surgery or respiratory failure.

Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and department/service.

Reviews patient medical history and chart, consults with surgeon or physician to obtain patient information needed to operate heart-lung machine and associated equipment.
Selects, assembles, and tests heart-lung machine & supplies to ensure that machine and associated equipment function according to specifications.

Monitors and observes operation of heart-lung machine and patient’s physiologic variables such blood temperature, blood composition, and flow rate, and adjusts equipment to maintain normal body functions.

Assures proper function and maintenance of equipment in conjuction with external technical staff.

Works with OR and Materials Management team to find the most cost effective methods of providing the service to include equipment purchases and vendor contracts for support.

Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality.

Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.

Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance.

Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

An Active Member shall be any perfusionist active in the practice of extracorporeal circulation technology. There are also opportunities to become a Transitional Active Member for those less than a year removed from graduation from an approved accredited training program. Other options include; an Associate Membership, International Membership, Perioperative Blood Management Clinician Membership, and Student Membership.
