Position: Perfusion Manager

Description:
Your role is responsible for the operation in providing Perfusion services for Parkridge Medical Center (PMC).
•Your role is responsible for all necessary personnel and equipment related to Perfusion services during open heart surgery. Auto transfusion and IABP services also under the responsibilities of the manager.
•You will maintain and monitor all clinical activities preformed at PMC in which Perfusion services are provided during open heart surgery and auto transfusion services for cardiac, orthopedics and general surgery departments.
•You will ensure that perfusion services are in accordance with the scope and standards outlined in the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology and the The Joint Commission.
•You will schedule all personnel for call duty, daily clinical activities, ensure the safe operation of all equipment, collaborate with material management department with ordering appropriate supplies and disposables.
•You will set up and operate the heart-lung machine at PMC to take the function of patient’s heart and lungs during surgery or respiratory failure.
•You will administer blood products, anesthetic agents or drugs through the extracorporeal circuit on prescription and/or appropriate protocol.
•Your role is a team player with Respiratory Care Leadership, Perfusion Team members, with guidance from the ECMO Medical Director to define quality initiatives for the ECMO Program/Patients.
Role and Responsibilities:
Ideal candidate must be a motivated self-starter with great attention to detail and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Provides qualified Clinical Perfusion and/ or Auto-transfusion for the Open-Heart Surgery Program services to Veterans.
Provides patient care in support, treatment, measurement or supplementation of circulatory system during cardiopulmonary surgical procedures.
Supports the physiological and metabolic needs of the surgical patient so that the surgeon may operate on a still non-beating heart.
Utilization of the heart-lung machine, as well as its associated components of an oxygenator, filters, reservoirs, and tubing
Responsible for the circulatory and respiratory functions of the heart-lung machine.
Shall assist the Cardio-Thoracic service with by-pass surgical cases and valve replacement of various types.
Shall perform onsite Perfusion/Auto-transfusion Services in the treatment of care for eligible veteran beneficiaries as referred and authorized by the WDCVAMD.
The Perfusionist is responsible for preparation, and operation of the heart and lung machines/pumps in conjunction with maintaining a sterile environment for procedures maintaining blood volume in the patients preventing shock or air embolus.
Assembles supplies and equipment in preparation to accept patient on extra corporeal circulation in cases of premature cardiac arrest or failure. Other services include preparation, maintenance and operation of VA owned equipment to include the heart lung machine, auto transfusion pump, intra-aortic balloon pump and centrifugal ventricular assist device.
Requirements:
Education: Graduate of an accredited program for Perfusion Technology.
•Licensure/certification: State licensure as Perfusionist required, BCLS.
•Experience: Experience as a Perfusionist (5 years minimum) with managerial experience strongly preferred.
•Minimum of 3 years recent ECMO experience in initiation, management, and removal.
