Position: Pediatric Perfusionist

Description: We are looking to expand our team at Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin Texas which is an extension of the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas.  Currently, we are a team of 4 perfusionists and we are looking to add you as our 5th.  Each year we perform roughly 300 pump cases (VAD, Heart Transplants and all STAT categories).  We have developed a robust ECMO team consisting of bedside nurses and RTs.  We work with four surgeons and a great team of anesthesiologists.  You will find the benefits (Health, Dental, Teacher Retirement System Pension) at the University to be a fantastic compliment to the very competitive salary.  The job is almost as vibrant as the city of Austin.  The city has great entertainment, nightlife, food and culture.  There are outdoor activities everywhere (hiking, boating, biking, kayaking and tubing) which will appeal to just about anyone’s hobbies. It is a major hub for technology and live music.


Provides set-up, priming, and initiation of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation.

Provides expertise and acts as a clinical resource to the in-house pediatric EMCO team and troubleshoots ECMO situations when needed.

All quality controls for POC lab testing equipment, quality assurance on cell saver equipment, and preventative maintenance on equipment all done at appropriate time intervals and per policies

Participates in departmental administrative activities in conjunction with CV surgeons and CV Administrative team. These activities include quality improvement, quality assurance programs, maintenance of annual clinical competencies and annual self-evaluation.

May assist the Director with training staff.

May assist the Director with research activities.

An Active Member shall be any perfusionist active in the practice of extracorporeal circulation technology. There are also opportunities to become a Transitional Active Member for those less than a year removed from graduation from an approved accredited training program. Other options include; an Associate Membership, International Membership, Perioperative Blood Management Clinician Membership, and Student Membership.
