Position: Cardioperfusionist

Location: New Haven, CT


Operates extra-corporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or replace the patient's cardiopulmonary, circulatory function and ensures the proper management of physiologic functions by monitoring the necessary variables. These duties, upon prescription by a physician and in accordance with hospital policy include, but are not limited to, the safe performance and/or management of:, Extra-corporeal circulation/cardiopulmonary support, Counter-pulsation, Circulatory support/ventricular assistance, Extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), Blood conservation techniques/auto-transfusion, Myocardial preservation, Anticoagulation and hematologic monitoring/analysis, Physiological monitoring/analysis, Blood gas and blood chemistry monitoring/analysis, Induction of hypothermia/hyperthermia with reversal, Hemodilution, Hemo-filtration/Ultra-filtration, Administration of medications, blood components and anesthetic agents via the extra-corporeal circuit, Documentation associated with described duties. Other duties may include: Isolated limb/organ perfusion, Electro-physiological analysis, Organ preservation, and Dialysis assistance


Graduation from an accredited cardiopulmonary perfusion program with a masters degree or a bachelors degree. Master's degree preferred.
Preferred two years experience with a bachelor's or master's degree. New grads welcome to apply. Certified or eligible to be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
Connecticut State Perfusion License/ABCP Certified Clinical Perfusionist

AmSECT Membership Eligibility

An Active Member shall be any perfusionist active in the practice of extracorporeal circulation technology. There are also opportunities to become a Transitional Active Member for those less than a year removed from graduation from an approved accredited training program. Other options include; an Associate Membership, International Membership, Perioperative Blood Management Clinician Membership, and Student Membership.
