AmSECT 2023 Election Information

 

Interested in volunteering with AmSECT? Consider running for an elected position on the AmSECT Board of Directors or one of the elected committee positions! 

 
 

The Willingness to Serve application is now open and will close on Monday, October 3rd 2022.

All interested candidates for the below positions are required to complete a Willingness to Serve application, and be approved by the Nominating and Ethics Committees. Approved candidates will then be eligible to run on the 2023 election ballot. Please see below the criteria and eligibility requirements as well as the expectations for each position:

  1. You must be an Active, Lifetime or Transitional member in good standing to submit a Willingness to Serve application. You must be in good standing during the election process, and if elected, during the full term of your position.

    1. Associate, International, Perioperative Blood Management Clinician, Retired and Student members are not eligible to run for any open officer or committee positions.

  2. You may run for multiple committee positions, however you will only be asked to serve in one position if you are declared the winner in multiple. 

2023 Open Positions:

 
Position Time Commitment/Expectation
Zone 1 Director (2) (Board of Directors)

Attend hour calls once a month along with ongoing email discussions as items arise. Attend two day-long board meetings annually and additional meetings with sponsors during the International Conference. Disseminate zone specific information to zone members. Participates as a Board of Directors Committee advocate, provides assistance to the committee and committee chair in developing and maintaining mission and goal statements and reports committee activity, progress, concerns and requests to the Board of Directors.

  • By selecting Zone 1 Director, you understand that you will be included on the ballot once for consideration for one of the two openings. All Zone 1 states are eligible to run for these positions.
  • Zone 1 Director Position: One of the two positions in Zone 1 is eligible for a 3-year term.
  • Zone 1 Director Position: The other Zone 1 Director position is eligible for a 1-year term fulfilling a vacancy on the board.
  • The candidate with the most votes in the Zone 1 election will serve the full 3-year term. This individual will be eligible for a second term.
  • The candidate with the second highest number of votes will fulfill the 1-year vacancy. This individual will be eligible in next year’s election for a full 3-year term.

Members living in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming are part of Zone 1. You must live in Zone 1 to run for this position.

Zone 4 Director (2) (Board of Directors)

Attend hour calls once a month along with ongoing email discussions as items arise. Attend two day-long board meetings annually and additional meetings with sponsors during the International Conference. Disseminate zone specific information to zone members. Participates as a Board of Directors Committee advocate, provides assistance to the committee and committee chair in developing and maintaining mission and goal statements and reports committee activity, progress, concerns and requests to the Board of Directors. 

  • By selecting Zone 4 Director, you understand that you will be included on the ballot once for consideration for one of the two openings. All Zone 4 states are eligible to run for these positions.

Members living in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, or West Virginia are in Zone 4. You must live in Zone 4 to run for this position.

Achievement Recognition Committee Member Meet on an as-needed basis and attend committee calls. Three-year term. Member serves as Chairman in third year of term. More information on the Achievement Recognition Committee can be found here. 
Ethics Committee Member

Meet on an as-needed basis and attend quarterly calls. Three-year term. Member serves as Chairman in third year of term. Committee and duties of the Committee can be found here. 

Nominating Committee Member

Most active during election cycles. Meet on as an-needed basis, attend calls and respond to emails in a timely manner. Three-year term. Member serves as Chairman in third year of term. More information on the Nominating Committee can be found here.
