17th Annual Symposium on New Advances in Blood Management

MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT

The American Society of ExtraCorporeal Technology is proud to announce the 17th Annual Symposium on New Advances in Blood Management. The meeting is dedicated to presenting the latest information on the field of perioperative blood management and its impact on patient care.

Major subject areas for the meeting include the following:

  • Blood Management in Cardiac Thoracic and Vascular Surgery
  • Minimizing Bleeding and Allogeneic Blood Transfusion Exposure
  • The Role of Extracorporeal Interventions on Optimizing Perfusion and the Improvement of Cardiopulmonary Bypass
  • Advances in Coagulation Monitoring: Present and the Future
  • Mechanisms of Reducing Inflammation during Cardiopulmonary Bypass
  • Autologous Platelet Harvesting and its Applications

Each session will have a minimum of three scientific sessions followed by a question and answer session. Speakers have been chosen who reflect the current state-of-the-art for all content areas and will report on both the physiological aspects of their subjects and on clinical studies. Emphasis will be placed on those interventions that have been scientifically shown, through techniques of evidenced-based medicine, to promote enhanced patient outcome.

This year the meeting will be held from October 1-3, 2009 at the Westin Crown Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Registration information can be obtained below.

The Westin Crown Center is located in the historic downtown area of Kansas City across the street from Union Station, and close to Westport and the Plaza, all of which offer excellent restaurants, shopping, and cultural events. We anticipate receiving approximately 23 Category I American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion continuing education points, and an equal number of nursing CEU's.

Attention All Previously Certified Autotransfusionists

All Autotransfusionists previously certified by the American Board of Clinical Autotransfusion (ABCA) may transfer their certification to the International Board of Blood Management (IBBM) by December 31, 2009. This is the final deadline to transfer certification from the ABCA. There is a $100.00 Reinstatement fee.

Recertification requests from ABCA certified members must be sent to info@intbbm.org with a copy of your ABCA certification. An IBBM recertification application will be sent to all who qualify. You may also contact the IBBM office at 720-236-2533 and request a Recertification Form.
