2020 Awards Nominations 

Please take the time to nominate your colleagues for the exceptional contributions they have made to our profession. We sincerely thank you for taking the time to recognize your peers for these honors. Please note: All nominees will be notified of their nomination after their eligibility for the award has been confirmed by the Achievement Recognition Committee. 

Please submit all nominations by October 9, 2019. 

 

The John H. Gibbon, Jr. Award

The profession’s highest achievement, the John H. Gibbon Jr., Award honors a candidate making a significant contribution to the cardiopulmonary discipline interrelating with the field of extracorporeal circulation. Nominees do not need to be members of AmSECT; the specialty of the candidate is not a criterion for the award (MDs and other allied health professionals are eligible). Other criteria:

  • The significant contribution must be in, or relate to, the field of extracorporeal circulation.
  • The candidate may receive the award only once.

The award consists of a medal and a check in the amount of $1,000.

AmSECT Award of Excellence

The Award of Excellence is presented annually to the perfusionist whose work best exemplifies creativity and intellectual honesty in perfusion. This award is presented for excellence in any area: education, continuing education, research, publication or leadership. Other criteria include:

  • The person receiving this award must be an active AmSECT member currently practicing in the field of extracorporeal technology.
  • No perfusionist may receive this award in two consecutive years.

The award consists of a plaque and a check in the amount of $1,000.

AmSECT Perfusionist of the Year

Perfusionist of the Year is presented annually to a perfusionist making significant contributions to the field of extracorporeal technology.

The award is presented based on a variety of qualities. Examples include excellence in the field of perfusion or extracurricular activities associated with the field of perfusion. Other criteria:

  • The award recipient must be active in the field of extracorporeal technology and must be a member of AmSECT.
  • No perfusionist may receive this award in two consecutive years.
  • This award is not to be presented for any one specific reason repeatedly, for there are many people in the field of extracorporeal technology making worthy contributions in a variety of areas who deserve recognition.

The award consists of a plaque and a check in the amount of $1,000.

AmSECT Membership Eligibility

An Active Member shall be any perfusionist active in the practice of extracorporeal circulation technology. There are also opportunities to become a Transitional Active Member for those less than a year removed from graduation from an approved accredited training program. Other options include; an Associate Membership, International Membership, Perioperative Blood Management Clinician Membership, and Student Membership.
