Oct PerfShareLive session reminder- gross blood splash to the face

Friends-

I will be presenting three PerfShareLive sessions in October. If you missed Session 1 which was an interview with Martha Carter BS RN CNOR about her recent publication on the ethics of ECMO; “Ethical Considerations for Care of the Child Undergoing Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation. AORN J 105 (February 2017) 148-158”, you can still hear the interview. Select the recording link below. The discussion focused on the concepts of Beneficence, Nonmaleficence, Autonomy, Justice and Moral Distress.

The second session was a table top scenario about high pressure excursions (HPE) in oxygenators. HPE occur when the transmembrane pressure becomes excessively high, often to the point of causing the blood flow to be reduced to avoid circuit disruption. This can happen on ECMO as well as CPB circuits. You can still see the video by selecting the recording link below.

The third session is another table top scenario and will play off the HPE theme to discuss the causes, prevention and mitigation of gross blood splash to the face of a health care provider from an ECMO or CPB circuit.

If your curiosity is peaked please join me at the sessions below. I will be repeating some of the sessions on the following day at a time more convenient for our eastern hemisphere friends. I will also record the sessions so that if you miss it I can send you the link for the recording.

I am sponsoring these discussion sessions which are open to perfusionists, ECMO specialists or anyone in a related field. There is no fee, no advertising and no corporate sponsorship of any kind; just people interested in extracorporeal support getting together and exchanging ideas.

The schedule is detailed below. I anticipate the discussion sessions will last 30 minutes. You may choose to actively participate or remain anonymous and just listen to the discussion without commenting. There is no commitment of any kind.

INSTRUCTIONS TO ACCESS THE SESSIONS:

At the appropriate date and time, go to the Perfusiontheory.com web page, select PerfShareLive from the drop down menu, then select the red "Join Meeting" button and wait for it to load. It might take a few minutes.

If that doesn’t work, you can access the sessions at the appropriate date and time by entering the following address into your web browser :

You should be taken directly to the meeting room on my computer. There is no software to download onto your computer or tablet. I don’t know if it will work with smart phones on Wi-Fi. Try it and we’ll see what happens. You may only get the audio portion.

I think this web conference tool will work with most browsers, but some older browser versions may not support audio or video. If that happens, I am sorry. Try to update your browser for the next session.

I think the controls that appear on your screen are very intuitive. But if you would like an instructional video you can find it here:

If you are not sure about the date and time of the sessions in your part of the world, access this site to help you:

You can also get to the meeting from my website, http://perfusiontheory.com/perfshare-live/, and pressing the join meeting button at the appropriate date and time.

I am located in Kansas City, Missouri, USA.

If you are a perfusion school director or instructor and would like to set-up special times just for your students I will be happy to do that.

If you have any questions I can be contacted at [login to unmask email]
