MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT

Techniques of Blood Management Symposium and
Perioperative Blood Management Technologist Certification Exam

The American Society of ExtraCorporeal Technology is pleased to offer a special symposium on Techniques of Blood Management. This symposium will be offered on April 8, 2008, immediately preceding AmSECT’s 46th International Conference in Orlando, FL. Subject areas to be presented include:

  • Bloodless Surgery and the Improvement of Cardiopulmonary Bypass
  • Minimizing Bleeding and Allogeneic Blood Transfusion
  • The Role of Extracorporeal Interventions on Optimizing Perfusion
  • Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia: Alternative Treatment Methods
  • Advances in Coagulation Monitoring: Present and the Future
  • Mechanisms of Reducing Inflammation during Cardiopulmonary Bypass
  • Autologous Platelet Harvesting and its Applications

Following the Symposium, the International Board of Blood Management (IBBM) will administer a certification exam for specialization in blood management techniques. The examination is a prerequisite to certification by the IBBM as a Perioperative Blood Management Technologist. This exam is available to individuals who are currently performing techniques of clinical autotransfusion and cell processing in the perioperative environment.
