Position: Perfusionist

Location: Hartford, CT

Description: Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center is searching for a Staff Perfusionist. We perform approximately 650 cases per year among 5 cardiac surgeons making Saint Francis, part of the Hoffman Heart Institute, one of the busiest Open Heart Centers in New England. Our Heart Center typically performs 3 cases per day and currently staff for 6 perfusionists. The position is predominantly day shift although evening and night cases routinely occur. There are on-call duties involved in the position. We are a level 2 Trauma Center with academic affiliations with the University of Connecticut and Quinnipiac University School of Perfusion. Responsibilities include setting up, operating, and managing cardiopulmonary bypass equipment and ancillary technical life support equipment required for patients undergoing open-heart surgery. You may also investigate and evaluate new technologies for increased efficiency and improved quality.


  • Education: B.S. in sciences; graduate of perfusion school
  • Experience: 2-3 years clinical experience
  • Certification: ABCP certified or certification eligible


  • The ability to deal with stressful situations, work independently and have effective interpersonal skills a necessity.

There are also opportunities to become a Transitional Active Member for those less than a year removed from graduation from an approved accredited training program. Other options include; an Associate Membership, International Membership, Perioperative Blood Management Clinician Membership, and Student Membership.
