Position: Perfusionist

Location: St. Joseph's Medical Center, Dignity Health, 1800 N. California Street, Stockton, Ca 

Description: The staff Perfusionist is a professional who is responsible for maintaining the heart and lung apparatus during cardiopulmonary bypass. Additional assignments for the staff perfusionist include setting up and operating right and/or left ventricular assist devise monitoring, set-up and insertion of intra-aortic balloon catheter, operating of intra-aortic balloon pump, intraoperative autologous recovery for transfusion, invasive pressure monitoring and participation in on–call rotation. Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently perform tasks and procedures according to Medical Center policy and procedure. Including, but not limited to
• Assembles and operates the oxygenator with tubing pack for extra-corporeal circulation
• Set ups and operates blood cardioplegia delivery system
• Efficient in all phases of intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation, intraoperative autologous transfusion, intraoperative drug management, invasive pressure monitoring and on-call for coronary angioplasty
• Assesses the patient's pre-, peri-, post-operative physiologic and hemodynamic status
• Adapts to change and demonstrates effective problem solving during procedures
• Helps maintain an appropriate inventory level in the department to meet the demands of the on-going schedule. standards
• Demonstrates accountability for professional, ethical and legal

Requirements: 

• Board eligible or Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion
• Graduate of a School of Perfusion Technology
• BLS Card Required
• Copy of ABCP certificate on file with annual renewal on file
• Must be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of perfusion techniques and theory Document to ABCP 40 OHS annually/attend professional conferences related to Perfusion (45 CEU’s)

Preferred:
• 1 year of experience preferred

There are also opportunities to become a Transitional Active Member for those less than a year removed from graduation from an approved accredited training program. Other options include; an Associate Membership, International Membership, Perioperative Blood Management Clinician Membership, and Student Membership.
