Position: Perfusion Director of ECMO/VAD

Location: York, Pennsylvania

Description: The Director of ECMO and VAD, having been appropriately trained to manage extracorporeal systems and under the direction of a prescribing physician, will perform direct patient care through the implementation, operation and management of the ECMO and VAD system. The Director will ensure the safe and effective operation of the equipment by performing routine assessments, interventions and practices as described in the ECLS practice guidelines. Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care plans to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources. Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychological support needs. Evaluates learning needs of patient and family and provides education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances. The work area is primarily the operating room and the Open Heart ICU but the possibility exists for working throughout the hospital. This is a full time exempt position


Educational/Knowledge Requirements:
Graduation from a CAAHEP accredited school of cardiovascular perfusion or met Grandfather Clause of the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and Pennsylvania Licensing Board.
5 years of Perfusion experience preferred.
3 years of ECMO and VAD experience preferred.
1 year of simulation and training experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification Required:
Certified according to guidelines of the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion
Pennsylvania perfusion license according to House Bills 500 and 501
Current Pennsylvania driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements-According to UPMC policy and include ability to transport via ambulance and air.
